The first step in making a bookshelf is to measure the half way point, mark the edges, set down the bracket, draw a line, cut out a hole that is deep enough that will allow the bracket to set flush. You have to make sure that you are doing this to the back or bottom of the book, which will be that part that will be visible in the end product.

By using the knife, make a notch for the L bracket so that the book will sit in a flush against the wall. The purpose of glue is to hold the bottom cover of the book and the work of the screws is to hold the pages together.
